On Monday, August 24, 2026, residents from North Delta, Ladner, and Tsawwassen began gathering outside Delta City Hall at approximately 5:45 p.m. ahead of that evening’s Council meeting. They raised concerns over housing density, tree removal, and development in the community.

Attendees told DCC Now their main concerns related to large land assemblies, multiplex projects, and the pace of change in local neighbourhoods. Several said they felt individual homeowners are held to different standards than large-scale developers. Many also pointed to the province’s Bill 44, saying it is frequently cited during Council discussions in a way that frames higher-density projects as largely unavoidable. Homemade signs opposed specific rezoning and townhouse proposals and called for the protection of urban forests in Tsawwassen.

DCC Now attended as an independent observer and spoke with attendees and organizers about their concerns.

None of the sitting Council members came outside to meet with residents during the peaceful gathering.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., the majority of those present went inside to attend the Council meeting as observers. The open Council meeting ran from 7:00 p.m. to 7:17 p.m. Residents attended peacefully.

After the meeting, some residents spoke with Council members and the Mayor in the hallway outside the Council chamber. The City Manager and Deputy City Manager also briefly met with a few people for a short discussion earlier in the evening.

DCC Now will continue to follow local development and governance issues as they develop.
