These questions were submitted by Delta resident Anna Klimek to all three candidates for Mayor of Delta: Melissa Granum, George V. Harvie and Dylan Kruger. DCC Now is publishing them so residents can follow the written replies in one place.

1. First Nations

What is your strategy for building long-term working relationships with Tsawwassen First Nation and Musqueam, particularly regarding major infrastructure, transportation, environmental and economic-development projects affecting Delta?

What would you do to ensure that consultation and cooperation occur early in the planning process?

2. Roberts Bank Terminal 2

What is your strategy for dealing with the expansion of Roberts Bank and Terminal 2?

How would you ensure that Delta receives appropriate transportation infrastructure, environmental protection and community benefits from major port-related development?

3. George Massey Tunnel

What are your priorities for the George Massey Tunnel replacement and the surrounding transportation network?

What specific improvements would you seek from the Province to address traffic, transit, agriculture, cycling, pedestrians and emergency response in Delta?

4. Tilbury LNG and industrial development

What is your vision for Delta's industrial and energy sector over the next 10–20 years?

How would you balance economic development with environmental protection, public safety and the interests of surrounding communities?

What specific benefits and infrastructure improvements should Delta seek from major industrial projects such as Tilbury LNG?

5. Building permits and development approvals

Do you believe Delta's current building-permit and development-approval process is sufficiently efficient and predictable?

If elected, what specific changes would you make to:

  • reduce unnecessary delays;
  • improve communication with applicants;
  • increase transparency;
  • improve digital processing; and
  • establish reasonable service standards?

Would you publish statistics showing application volumes and average processing times?

6. Ladner revitalization

What is your long-term vision for Ladner Village?

How would you create a vibrant, walkable community with:

  • housing;
  • local businesses and restaurants;
  • public spaces;
  • waterfront activities;
  • recreation;
  • tourism; and
  • community facilities?

What specific Ladner projects would you want completed during your four-year term?

7. City-owned property in Ladner

The City owns significant property in Ladner Village.

What is your vision for the City's approximately 1.2-acre property in the heart of Ladner?

What type of development or community use would you pursue, and how would you involve Ladner residents in determining its future?

8. Building complete communities

How will you ensure that new housing development creates complete communities rather than simply adding more homes?

How should new development contribute toward parks, recreation facilities, childcare, transportation, pedestrian infrastructure and other community amenities?

9. Children and youth

What is your vision for children and youth in Delta?

What facilities or programs do you believe Delta is currently missing?

10. Creating stronger communities

Delta consists of North Delta, Ladner, Tsawwassen and significant agricultural and rural areas.

What will you do to strengthen the identity and sense of community in each area?

How would you support local businesses, community events, arts and culture, public gathering places and organizations that bring residents together?

11. Infrastructure and funding

What are your top five infrastructure priorities for Delta during the next four years?

How would you pay for them?
